The Design Course That Changed My Life

If you know anything about Studio Alexia, you’ve probably heard about Designers’ Summer Camp. *gets on soapbox*

It’s quite literally the only reason that Studio Alexia exists — because it taught me everything I needed to know in order to launch my business. More on that story in this journal post.

Designers’ Summer Camp is an online course taught by Alyssa of ATNN Design. She teaches brand design from the very basics — how to use Adobe programs, create color palettes, and utilize type hierarchy — all the way to real-life applications with personalized design briefs. It’s suited to all types of designers — whether you’ve never heard of brand design (like me, last year) or have more experience. You’ll get access to one-on-one calls with Alyssa, group calls with other designers, a bunch of resources + workshops on all kinds of topics, and long-term access to alllll this goodness after the summer ends.

As if that wasn’t good enough, Camp keeps getting better.

It’s called Camp because Alyssa takes an untraditional approach to its style and structure. It’s not a stuffy, impersonal course with bots to update you on your progress. Instead, the emphasis is on community and growth. All campers get put into cabins where they learn alongside each other, attend “cabin calls” with Counselor Alyssa, and come up with a super cute cabin name to bond over (last year, my cabin was the Branding Besties — shoutout to my girly Sav!). I’m still close to my co-bunkers from Camp 2021! We DM each other all the time to ask questions or hype each other up. Not to mention, Alyssa has become my mentor and friend, who still supports me and hypes me up on Instagram.

It literally feels like a camp — as if we’re truly bunking in cabins together and getting closer over the smell of marshmallows being toasted over the fire. And possibly the best part is… no mosquitos are involved.

Camp was quite literally the start of the rest of my life. I had taken courses before, but none that equipped me so generously to go out into the world and confidently start my own business. That is, until I became a Camper. And the rest is history!
